Fall has always been one of my favorite times of the year. There's something about the crisp morning air, changing leaves, and quiet of the outdoors that I look forward to every season. When I can find the time, there's a good chance you'll find me sitting in a deer stand, walking a field chasing pheasants, or spending time in a duck blind. Some of my favorite fall memories involve being outdoors with family, good friends, and our dog.
Over the years, I've come to appreciate that these experiences aren't really about the hunt. They're about the time spent together, the conversations, the stories, and sometimes just the opportunity to sit quietly and take in everything around us. Life gets busy, and those moments have a way of reminding me what's most important.
As we head into November and the Thanksgiving season, I find myself thinking about how much that same appreciation for people and relationships carries over into our schools.
In education, we spend a great deal of time talking about academics, student achievement, facilities, finances, and the challenges facing public schools. These are important conversations, but behind all of that work are people who care deeply about our students and the community we serve.
Every day across Cambridge-Isanti Schools, there are countless examples of people making a difference. A teacher who stays after class to help a student understand a difficult concept. A bus driver who greets students by name each morning. An Instructional Assistant who helps a child build confidence. A coach, advisor, or program leader who encourages a student to try something new. These moments may seem small, but over time, they help shape a student's experience and sense of belonging.
I'm equally grateful for the people and organizations throughout our community who support our schools. Over the past month, I've had the opportunity to attend both the Bluejacket Education Foundation's Future Fest fundraiser and the North 65 Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala. While each event had its own purpose, both brought together remarkable people who are supportive, collaborative, and deeply committed to the success of our communities and the region. It's encouraging to see so many individuals and organizations investing their time, energy, and resources into making this a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Our schools and students benefit tremendously from that spirit of community.
One thing I've learned throughout my career is that education is truly a team effort. Our mission to Educate, Empower, and Inspire Every Student, Every Day depends on staff, families, and community members working together, supporting one another, and recognizing that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed.
Of course, we face challenges. There will always be difficult decisions, competing priorities, and circumstances that test us. But I'm continually encouraged by the commitment of people who show up each day and work to make things better for our students.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I hope we can all find time to slow down and appreciate the people and experiences that matter most. For me, that might mean a quiet morning in the woods or an afternoon outdoors with family and friends. For others, it may be time around the dinner table, attending a school event, or reconnecting with someone special.
Whatever that looks like for you, I hope this season brings opportunities to enjoy those moments.
From all of us at Cambridge-Isanti Schools, thank you for the many ways you support our students, staff, and schools. We are fortunate to be part of a community that cares so deeply about its children and their future.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Dr. Nate Rudolph, Superintendent of Cambridge-Isanti Schools
